Summer Family Worship during the months of July and August is at 9:30am in the air-conditioned Chapel. Family Worship during other months of the year is at 10:30am in the Sanctuary.
Family Worship at Community Congregational Church is an hour of music, readings, prayer and a sermon aimed at revealing the relevance of faith and spirituality to our daily lives. Families worship together at the start of the service, when children are also invited to come up to the chancel steps for the weekly Children's Sermon, after which students through 8th grade leave for their Sunday School classes taught by college-age teachers.
From the New Revised Standard Version of the Bible, the scripture readings and other contextual and current events inform the weekly sermon. During every hour of worship, we dedicate time to prayer. When we pray, we acknowledge how we as a family of faith, and individually as children of God, look to God as our heavenly father. We call out the names of loved ones for whom we have special concern each time we worship together. We also pray for those who are serving in the military and their loved ones, who continue to find themselves in harm's way, and anyone in any other capacity of service to country and society.
Music forms an important part of Worship, as it always supports the theme of the readings, sermon and religious season. It also invokes the presence and an awareness of God in a uniquely spiritual way. Hymns are sung from two diverse hymnals. The Chancel Choir and soloists offer anthems that vary in style and era from sacred classical to contemporary. A full pipe organ and piano provide accompaniment.
